Back in July 2003 Laura Anderson graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone Art College in Dundee, Scotland. She had just completed a Bdes (hons) in Printed Textiles and wanted to pursue this as a career.

During the final year of her course she started experimenting with bright pattern and became very interested in bold, simple designs. Looking at artists and designers including Gunta Stolzl, Patrick Heron and Marrimekko, she started creating bags and scarves from the designs she had printed.

Laura was sponsored by Texprint, after being nominated by one of her tutors at her Art College, to exhibit at Indigo, Paris, in September 2003. Showcasing her designs to an international audience was very daunting but she received a very good response which gave her the confidence to start selling her work when she returned home.

Laura finds much interest in the urban environment photographing and drawing anything from the shabby exteriors of derelict industrial units to the systematic order of the windows in the high rise buildings. This inspiration was to be the beginnings of many hand-printed and digitally produced designs that would be used to create the bags and scarves for her first exhibitions.

Laura started exhibiting with 3d2d, a company that organises craft and design fairs throughout Scotland. Her first exhibition was in August 2004 at the Edinburgh festival, there, she tested her products and realised that again there was a good response from the public. Many people had been commenting on how different her work was compared to what they had seen before and also the quality of the materials used were great, so within no time she gained a small group of loyal customers.

Since then, Laura has received a business start up grant from the Small Business Gateway which has helped in buying essential materials, and has also aided her with research trips and further exhibitions such as the British Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate. She also received funding to participate at Origin in London from the Scottish Arts Council.
These exhibitions have given Laura a wide range of both trade and retail clients throughout the UK including John Snow the channel 4 newsreader who buys ties from her regularly.
